If you want to join one of the public services, you need to do this course! It improves your knowledge on each specific role within the public services and gives you opportunity to meet those in the industry currently.

What were the best bits about your course?
Probably the range of opportunities available alongside your course. We have a lot of opportunities to go abroad, visitors coming into College and residential team building trips. It’s good to get a range of experiences to talk about at interviews.

Why did you choose your course?
I was previously a cadet at 455 (Morecambe & Heysham) Air Cadets and since then I’ve always known I wanted to go into the public services as an officer in the RAF. To be an officer, you need a qualification equivalent to A-levels and the College offers that. I don’t have to do 3 or 4 general A-level subjects, I can do a course that directly links to my chosen career.

Why did you choose Lancaster & Morecambe College?
I came to College over summer when I was on the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. I met some of the staff and they seemed really supportive, so I decided to apply. It’s accessible for me as I live locally but also, the course seemed great as it had direct, relevant links to industry.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the same course?
If you want to join one of the public services, you need to do this course! It improves your knowledge on each specific role within the public services and gives you opportunity to meet those in the industry currently. It’s not just the links to industry, it’s the opportunity to develop transferable skills like; teamwork, leadership and communication that make this course so good.

What has been your biggest accomplishment whilst studying at LMC?
It was definitely our residential trip to the army training camp. It pushed all of us and because we were all different abilities, we had to work as a team which really did bring us closer. Personally, I pushed myself further than I ever thought I was capable of, which has meant I’ve learnt a lot about myself and my mindset in challenging situations.

What do you hope to do when you’ve completed this course?
Logistics Officer in the RAF. I’m hoping to apply soon, so I can start my basic training once my course has finished. I’ve always wanted to travel and with the RAF, you can find yourself all over the world. This is definitely influenced my decision of what to do once I’ve completed my course.

Any other comments?
The course is a mixture of practical and classroom based sessions. It’s helped my boost my fitness but also given me skills for life that I can transfer into any profession.
