My confidence has grown so that I am not scared to try things out for fear of making mistakes.

Brendan was finding more often than not, that his children and grandchildren were asking him questions he wasn't able to answer when it came to tech and IT. That is when he was introduced to learning at LMC through our offiste venue in the West End of Morecambe, The Link.

As a busy working parent and grandparent, the flexibility of the sessions at The Link allowed Brendan to fit his learning around his other commitments, such as work and childcare.

I am a busy working parent /grandad and got asked lots questions off the children that I didn’t know. So I thought about coming back to College but was apprehensive about large class numbers and lots of younger people that have been in a learning environment, where I hadn’t been at school for 30+ years.

Due to an industrial injury, Brendan had to make a career change and was unsure on what it was he wanted to do. He visited LMC for a chat about his capabilities and options and was guided towards the Digital and IT Skills Level 2 Award as a starting point.

I made inquires and found The Link doing the IT course. I came and found it perfect for me. John is a very pleasant teacher and I found him easy to understand and have picked up so many ICT skills. I can now show my children how to do something, instead of me asking them how to do it.

After his first year of studying, Brendan's confidence and enjoyment for learning grew, so he moved onto the IT Users Skills (ITQ) Level 3 Certificate BCS which opened up his employment opportunities even wider than before. As well as developing his technical knowledge to pass the exams, Brendan has also developed his general IT skills from using Excel tables for personal bill management and also Word documents for work.

Studying in the adult environment at The Link has made it easier to have student- teacher relationship. This means you get more time to ask questions and get the help on a one to one basis as the class is a smaller.
