Moving on from school into post-16 education is an exciting time, and it's important that young people find the course that is right for them. Here at LMC, our award-winning careers team offer impartial advice and guidance to help you and your child make that choice, and we hold a number of Open Evenings and careers events throughout the year, where you can meet with tutors, chat with our support teams, tour our campus and visit our fantastic, industry-standard facilities.
We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of support to our learners, helping them to develop the skills and knowledge they will require to progress into their chosen career, or onto further study. Our strong established links with local, regional and national employers provide exceptional opportunities for industrial and vocational placements, and this was recognised in our recent Ofsted inspection, where our contribution to the regional skills need was graded as STRONG.
Staff work highly effectively with an extensive network of employers to develop tailored training and education programmes. They use the expertise of employers and stakeholders to inform their curriculums to meet future skills needs. Leaders make sure that learners and apprentices develop the transferrable skills that will support them into further and higher education or employment.
Ofsted February 2025
The majority of our students are aged 16-18 and we support them to be self-directed and highly motivated learners. However, we also know that it is important to keep parents, carers and guardians informed of their progress and achievements, so that you can share in their success and support them throughout their time at LMC. We will send you Progress Reports at the end of the Autumn term (December) and the Spring Term (April) and we also ask for your feedback through our Parent & Guardian Survey in January and July. You will also be invited to attend a Meet the Tutor event during the first term.
We have high expectations of our learners and we know that the first step to achieving their qualification is to attend all of their classes. We set a minimum 95% attendance target for all classes (unless agreed with their course tutor) and where students have a genuine reason for missing classes, we ask that they let us know before 9am via our Absence Hotline. From April 2025, we will be piloting a system where the named next of kin of students aged under 18 will receive a text notification whenever they miss a class. We will be asking for feedback on this system at the end of the academic year.
If your child/dependant is unwell or going to be away from College for a period of time, please complete the Absence Report form:
