What are HNCs and HNDs?
HNC/HNDs are work-related higher education qualifications which focus on practical learning. A HNC is a one year course, and HND two year. They provide you will the skills to progress to work in your chosen field or to further study. If you choose, you can top up many of our HNDs to a full honours degree with a one year university course at our local partner universities or further afield. As you would only pay full university fees for your final year, this is a more cost effective way of obtaining a degree.
All our Higher Education Courses are eligible for a HE Loan meaning you can study with no upfront tuition fee costs.
You have always wanted to study to university level but…
I can’t afford it
The cost of studying at university can be off-putting.
The Sutton trust reports that University graduates in England face higher debts on graduation than their peers in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and those who graduated from English universities last year - under the £9,000 fees regime - owed an average of £44,000. (source BBC News 2016)
Our course fees are much lower than universities (currently £5,000 per year). By staying local you can also save on accommodation costs and keep your part time job. This means even if you progress to university for a final top up year, the cost of obtaining your degree is a much lower, leaving you with less overall borrowing.
Don’t forget, you don’t pay any fees upfront and only start to repay your student loan once you are earning over £21,000, with any remaining debt written off after 30 years. (Information correct at time of publishing)
I have children/family commitments
By studying locally with flexible arrangements you are able to manage your personal and academic commitments. Our on-site nursery: Treetops is not only convenient, it is rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted and provides a supportive and nurturing environment for pre-school children.
Many of our students are returning to study since becoming parents so you will be part of a like-minded and supportive community.
I don’t want to move away
Why would you? Our local area is beautiful. For some people relocating is just not an option.
By choosing to study at LMC you gain access to the university level courses on a £14 million campus that is local to you and served by excellent transport links.
I’m too old
You’re never too old. Some of our best performing students have returned to study after a long time out of education. We have mixed aged groups across all our courses which benefits all our students and generates a strong learning community.
