Michelle came to Lancaster and Morecambe College in 1997 as a full time student after finishing high school and struggling to secure the grades she needed right away. 

We asked Michelle why she initially chose to come to LMC to study the Health and Social Care Level 3 course, known then as the National Diploma in Health (science) and she said...

I didn't pass my Maths GCSE and couldn't get into nursing unless I had the GCSE or an equivalent. I was told the course I did would be enough to get me into studying nursing. 

Michelle told us that the most enjoyable parts of her course was that it was so different from the school environment she was used to. Michelle said she made lots of new friends and enjoyed meeting new people and loved that she was able to study the subjects she wanted to rather than having to choose from a range of courses she wasn't interested in at sixth form.

We asked Michelle what the key skills she learnt on her course were and she said... 

I learned independence! I wasn't used to getting on buses to get to places, so I learned that. I was extremely shy and I think it improved my communication skills and confidence in talking to people.

The course has helped Michelle massively in her current career as a Band 7 Macmillan Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. Some of the elements she learnt on the course she still uses today in her line of work such as her understanding of anatomy and physiology. 

Michelle's biggest accomplishment since leaving College is getting to where she is today, as a successful nurse specialist in her field. She loved her time at College and it was a great transition for her between school and University,

We asked Michelle, what would she say to someone who was thinking about doing the course at LMC?

Do it! You won't regret it, it's lots of fun, you'll make new friends and learn things that you'll use throughout your life!
