I’ve been studying Land-Based Studies Level 1 at LMC and it’s been a great experience so far. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most is getting hands-on with a wide range of animals. It’s not just about looking after them, we’ve also been learning the science behind their care, which has been really interesting.
Roxanne Moreton is currently studying Land-Based Studies Level 1 course at Lancaster & Morecambe College. With a strong interest in animal care and a goal of becoming a Veterinary Nurse, she chose the course to build practical skills and knowledge in this area. Her journey so far has been marked by hands-on experience with animals, a growing understanding of animal science, and top marks in her theory assessments.
I've been studying Land-Based Studies Level 1, and it’s been a great experience so far. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most is getting hands-on with a wide range of animals. Roxanne explained that some of the best parts of the course have been working hands-on with a variety of animals and learning how to care for them properly. She found the science elements particularly engaging, especially the practical sessions like dissections, which helped her understand Animal Biology in more depth.
Throughout the course, she has developed a wide range of valuable skills, including how to safely restrain and handle different species, how to clean and treat them effectively, and an understanding of the key skills needed to work in the animal care industry. These experiences have helped her feel more prepared for her future career.
I chose to study at LMC because I’d heard a lot of good things about the College. It sounded like a place where I could really grow, and since working with animals is something I’ve always been passionate about, it felt like the right fit. My goal is to become a Veterinary Nurse, so this course is a great first step for me towards gaining my choose career.”
One of Roxanne’s biggest achievements during the course has been earning distinctions in all of her theory assessments. This accomplishment has given her a strong sense of confidence and reflects how much progress she has made since starting her studies.
Roxanne will be progressing onto the Animal Care Level 2 course, which she is looking forward to. This next step will bring her closer to achieving her goal of becoming a Veterinary Nurse.
If you are thinking about doing this course, I’d say go for it, but be ready to put the work in. A lot of the Level 1 course is theory-based, but it’s still really enjoyable. The practical side can be challenging, but it’s also super rewarding when you see how far you’ve come.”
