Think of this course as an investment in your future, think of your potential and how and what you can do to achieve it. The AAT Accounting Certificate offers you the basics of accounting and a fantastic opportunity to see what topics interest you. The course is a great foundation for employment or further studies.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, Tom sought a career change and decided to return to education to study on the AAT Accounting Level 2 Certificate course. With an interest in developing new skills and gaining knowledge in a subject he was passionate about Tom chose to study part time while continuing to work, and described the College as a natural learning environment where he felt supported and encouraged to grow.

Tom was familiar with Lancaster & Morecambe College as he'd previously studied there as both a full-time student and an apprentice, which made it the ideal place for him to restart his academic journey. Having already considered accounting as a career path, enrolling onto the AAT Accounting Certificate Level 2 felt like the perfect entry point into the subject. The course offered a structured foundation in accounting, which matched his aspirations.

While studying the course with the support of my tutors and peers I have developed essential accounting skills, such as understanding the double-entry bookkeeping system, identifying which side of the ledgers transactions belong on, and working with control accounts and costing methods, all of which are invaluable skills required for a career in Accounting.

As part of his course, Tom has recently begun to explore the business environment, focusing on the various external factors that influence how companies operate. He is also learning how businesses adapt to changes in areas such as legislation, technology, competition and economic conditions, all areas that he finds both fascinating and highly relevant to the field of Accounting.

In terms of personal growth, I have developed a range of essential skills during my time at LMC, I have learnt the importance of focus and found a decent work ethics for my studies. I now actively contribute in class discussions and continue to conduct research into my chosen topic to support my studies. My passion for the subject has fuelled my commitment to my studies, which in turn has significantly boosted my confidence.

Professionally, the course has been a stepping stone for Tom towards his long-term career goal, as the AAT Accounting Certificate is a globally recognised qualification, laying a solid foundation for future studies. With the support of his tutors, Carol and Denise, Tom gained essential accounting knowledge and developed the confidence to continue expanding his learning. Their guidance and practical advice played a key role in helping him stay motivated and perform at his best throughout the course.

One of my biggest accomplishments has been passing my exams and gaining the confidence to reach my potential. Along the way, I’ve also made some great friends and built a solid foundation for my future.

When asked if Tom would recommend the course to anyone thinking of applying his response was:

After completing the AAT Accounting Certificate Tom hopes to continue developing his knowledge by progressing to the AAT Accounting Level 3 Diploma at the college, and then hopefully afterwards moving onto an Accounting Apprenticeship, which would to provide him with the opportunity to practice his skillls and gain working experience in Accounting.
