The Esports Level 3 is a two year course equivalent to 3 A-Levels. The first year is designed to introduce students to a broad range of transferable skills across a range of digital disciplines allowing them to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to explore their aptitude and ambition within the subject area.

The course has a strong emphasis on giving students a range of necessary skills across a number of disciplines related to Esports, business and the media industry.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The course is at the forefront of innovation within the industry and opportunities to progress are explored throughout the course.

Most students will likely continue their studies either with us on a relevant Level 4 course or go on to university after completing their two year Extended Diploma. Students in similar areas have gone on to study at University of Central Lancashire, Manchester Metropolitan University, Future Works and Teesside University to name but a few.

Students have also gone on to work for University of Central Lancashire, Morecambe Bay Football Club, Double Negative (DNEG), Nublue and Rockstar Games.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including English and maths. Learners will also need to have interest and enthusiasm for Esports and be able to demonstrate commitment to their study in terms of attendance, punctuality and behaviour, as well as a willingness to participate in group work. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

Whilst the course has a variety of aspects including practical aspects, it is demanding in terms of written and practical work and students are expected to keep detailed journals/technical notes throughout to demonstrate learning. There is also the expectation that students will develop a greater understanding of the Esports/media industry and issues in a broader context.

There are opportunities to work on local and national projects, which serve to not only develop technical skills but also interpersonal skills while gaining essential industry work experience. In addition to this we undertake many trips and visits where applicable so that students get as much exposure to industry as possible. This may include university visits, media workshops, Animex and gaming events such as Euro Gamer Expo (EGX) and Insomnia. Covid permitting, students on the Esports course also have the opportunity to attend a trip to London, in which they visit the Harry Potter Studios and London’s West End, as well as various sightseeing spots.

In Esports we often work with internal and external clients on the course as we think it is important for students to work in a real world environment gaining essential experience such as meeting and negotiating with real clients. As part of the main programme students will be responsible for creating a brand, designing a logo and launching their own channel. They will also be expected to develop a real life Esports event from initial creation through to managing and hosting the event. We will also explore areas including health, wellbeing and fitness, coaching, nutrition, video production, law and legislation and games development.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Esports. This is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is a recognised route to Higher Education.
