This is a full time course which helps “bridge the gap” between school and college.

Course Overview

The course is suitable for young people who want to:

  • Enhance and develop their employability skills

  • Build their confidence

  • Improve their functional and personal skills

  • Work within a small, supportive environment

You will study the following:

  • Functional Skills in Maths and English

  • Skills for Learning and Work

  • Employability Skills

  • Vocational Sampling

All students aged 16-19 who do not have a grade 4 (C) or higher in GCSE English and Maths are required to study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths as part of their course.

If you have a grade 3 (D) at GCSE, you will study English and/or Maths GCSE.

If you have a grade 2 (E) or lower at GCSE, you will study English and/or Maths Functional Skills.

Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

Progression Routes

Many students move onto a full time course to gain a vocational qualification and others find employment.

Entry Requirements

You do not need any qualifications to join. You will need a willingness to learn, a commitment to your studies, a satisfactory record of attendance and want to develop your independence and progress onto further higher level courses or employment.
