The Essential Digital Skills course is intended to support you to develop the digital skills you need for life, work and further study and includes internet safety. It provides you with a nationally recognised Digital Skills qualification and is a step towards further study.

Course Overview

Entry Level 3 is designed for adults with little or no prior experience of using digital devices or the internet.

The course covers 5 skill areas, these are:

  • Using devices and handling information

  • Creating and editing

  • Communicating

  • Transacting

  • Being safe and responsible online

You will use a variety of programmes to complete the tasks and support your learning, these include Word, Excel and internet search engines such as Google to name just a few.

There will be a mixture of class taught sessions, individual learning and small group work. The focus will be on developing your skills rather than covering topics you already know.

With good attendance at the workshops you would be able to complete this within 10 weeks.

On completing the course you will achieve a Gateway Essential Digital Skills Certificate.

Progression Routes

On completion of the course you may choose to study further digital skills qualifications. At Lancaster & Morecambe College, we currently offer:

  • Level 2 ECDL Essentials

  • Level 2 Principles of Digital Skills in Employment

  • Level 1 & 2 IT Users (ITQ)

In addition, we have a variety of social media courses available covering the essentials of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Entry Requirements

No previous formal qualifications are required however, you will need to be 19+ and complete an initial assessment to identify your current digital skills abilities and areas for development.
