Choosing to study in the Health and Social Care department at Lancaster & Morecambe College will give you access to exciting programmes of study across all levels, taught by well qualified tutors with industry experience. Progression through the qualifications levels is encouraged and supported. You will undertake work experience as part of your course, in a variety of settings, where you can apply what you have learnt in the classroom to practical experiences. The Health and Social Care sector is one of the largest employers in the local area so the courses can lead to fantastic job opportunities. If you choose the Apprenticeship route, you will have access to an experienced and knowledgeable assessor throughout the work-based qualification.

Previous students have gone on to study a variety of courses at degree level including mental health, adult and children’s nursing, as well as psychology and radiology degrees. University destinations have included Leeds University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moores, UCLan and the University of Cumbria. Students can also progress onto a Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Health and Social Care here at Lancaster & Morecambe College. Employment opportunities include care assistant or care manager in residential and domiciliary care, as well as youth and community work and clinical support worker.

What do I need to join?
3 GCSEs at grade A*-C OR a Level 2 related qualification PLUS GCSE maths and English at grade C/4 or higher. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager. This is an interesting and challenging two year full time course which is designed for students wishing to gain employment in the health and social care sector, or progress to university to study at degree level on a range of vocational and academic courses relating to health and social care.
Who is this course for?
The course is suitable for school leavers who wish to study, in detail, various aspects of health and social care. The course enables students to gain wide knowledge and experience of the many aspects of health and social care, and to become familiar with the role of the professional within the sector.
