Apprenticeship Progress Coach
Salary £23,110 per annum, pro rata
30 hours per week
Temporary until 31st December 2023

Do you have experience supporting apprentices to achieve their future career aspirations?

Lancaster & Morecambe College are seeking an Apprenticeship Progress Coach to support the Lancashire Engaging Apprentice Programme (LEAP). LEAP is a  European Social Fund project and supports Lancashire based SMEs in a career focused way by offering mentoring and guidance to apprentices and employers alike.   
With a strong career focus, apprentices will engage in masterclasses with industry professionals designed to inspire and motivate them, ensuring they bring fresh ideas into the workplace. We can also support employers with coaching and mentoring. 

You will manage and develop an innovative careers programme for all apprenticeship provision to ensure apprentices develop the appropriate skills and understanding to progress their careers.

It is essential to have experience in the delivery of apprenticeships in the workplace. You will be practised in planning and organising events/training opportunities and providing careers advice and guidance.
An innovative and flexible approach, along with the ability to motivate others, is required.
A current driving licence and business travel insurance with access to own vehicle is also essential.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To manage and develop an innovative careers programme for all apprenticeship provision to ensure apprentices develop the appropriate skills and understanding to progress their careers.
  • Support the smooth transition from pre-apprenticeship/traineeships to apprenticeship.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Develop an innovative careers programme for all apprenticeship provision, which will include providing apprentices to access masterclasses with industry professionals, educational visits to universities to broaden career aspirations and arranging guest speakers to motivate apprentices.

  2. Establish an apprenticeship ambassador/mentoring and alumni scheme to support apprenticeship motivation, aspiration and encouragement to achieve higher.

  3. Support the delivery of the apprenticeship skills development academy and further develop these ideas to ensure all apprentices have access to the resource.

  4. Support all apprentices with low motivation by signposting them to relevant sessions to support and improve their motivation to work, complete their studies and progress their career. 

  5. Monitor the impact of all activity to ensure value is added to individuals and the careers programme is meaningful and supporting apprentices to achieve higher.

  6. Develop a suite of resources with the smart virtual learning platform to support apprentices develop their academic skills; challenging apprentices to achieve “not just a pass” at their end point assessment.

  7. Develop effective relationships with apprenticeship team, to ensure apprentices have the maximum benefit of the Lancashire Engaging Apprenticeship Programme (LEAP) project.

  8. Develop resources and deliver sessions to support the smooth transition of pre-apprenticeships/traineeships to apprenticeships or bridging programmes to support apprenticeship progression to higher education.

  9. Follow up apprenticeship destinations to ensure all successful apprentices have sustained work. Where this is not the case signpost the former apprentices to alternative provision to continue to develop the individual.

  10. Develop progression maps for each apprenticeship to ensure all provision is mapped to relevant higher apprenticeship.

  11. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Awareness / experience of delivering apprenticeships in the workplace
  • Experience of working with young people and/or adults in a training capacity
  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation as applied in relevant area(s)
  • Experience of careers, advice and guidance
  • Experience of planning and organising events or training opportunities

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Monitoring health & safety in the workplace
  • Experience of supervising staff and leading team meetings

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form and interview and assessment*

  • A recognised qualification in area of occupational competence (level 3 or above)
  • L4 Information, Advice and Guidance 
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)*
  • Health and Safety Qualification

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview and assessment*

  • Level 4 or 5 qualification in area of occupational competence

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates
