Job Description

Cleaning Operative in Hospitality & Catering
Salary £18,327 per annum, pro rata
30 hours per week, Term-time only (38 weeks per year)

Lancaster & Morecambe College is looking for a cleaning operative to undertake the daily cleaning required to maintain Catering specification and high standards, along with other associated catering-based tasks within a busy catering learning environment.

You will have a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and to attend any training courses appropriate to the post. Your suitability to work in a student environment will be assessed as part of the College’s safeguarding duty.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose: 

  • To undertake the daily cleaning required to Catering specification and high standards, along with other associated catering-based tasks within a busy catering learning environment.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Take responsibility for maintaining the highest standard of cleanliness within a designated cleaning area in accordance with College specifications, including keeping up to date cleaning and food safety records.

  2.  Ensure that regular checks of equipment and machinery are carried out during your hours of duty and any defects are reported to the tutor in charge.

  3. Take responsibility for maintaining and cleaning machinery and other equipment, sorting, safe storage and distributing of ingredients, safe disposal and re-cycling of rubbish, organising linen and laundry.

  4. Report to the Tutor in charge any dangers or hazards that you may encounter.

  5. Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are met including the wearing of safe and adequate footwear and other protective clothing at all times.

  6. Assist with other tasks within your job role in order to maintain and improve the cleaning services within the premises as and when necessary.

  7. Act responsibly and with integrity regarding room security when in possession of College keys.

  8. Attend training sessions and team meetings relevant to post.

  9. Liaise with supervisor, colleagues and learners to create a harmonious working environment.

  10. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form

  • General cleaning experience within a working environment

Desired - Measured by application form

  • Experience of working in a cleaning role within a catering environment
  • Experience of accurate record keeping 
  • Experience of food safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form

  •  Food Hygiene qualification (or willingness to gain within a specified timescale)

Skills / Attributes

Essential 

  • Enthusiastic, with good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • High standards of hygiene; cleanliness, organisation and tidiness
  • Good communication and people skills

Desirable 

  • A working knowledge of COSHH Regulations and Health & Safety at Work Act
