Job Description

Lecturer in Health and Science

£25,933 - £34,680 per annum depending on qualifications and experience,

plus £4,000 per annum Shortage Skills Allowance

37 hours per week

 

Lancaster & Morecambe College are seeking a Lecturer in Health and Science who can deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment, and who will provide an excellent learning experience which ensures high achievement for all students.

You will deliver on the new T Level in Health (Level 3) and the Foundation T Level in Health (Level 2). These are exciting new high-quality qualifications designed to give young people the knowledge and skills they need to gain jobs within the Health industry.

The main focus of this role will be to teach and assess topics relating to working in the health sector, person centred care, safeguarding, managing information and data within the health sector, principles of good practice in scientific and clinical settings, and scientific concepts (particularly relating to biology, anatomy and physiology and physiological disorders) at Level 2 and Level 3.

You will have relevant recent vocational experience in the health/science sector and will be teacher qualified or willing to undertake this training. Support and mentoring are provided for those new to teaching.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

  • To provide high quality teaching and learning, specifically contributing to the Programme Area’s expertise in Health & Science for the delivery of Level 2 Foundation T Level and Level 3 T Level in Health.
  • To support students in reaching their academic and personal goals leading to their positive progression.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. A teaching commitment in line with College policy as agreed annually with the Programme Area Manager and Director of Curriculum and Innovation. You will plan and deliver teaching/learning programmes using a flexible range of engaging strategies to promote learning, taking responsibility for the continual development of own teaching and related curriculum.
  2. The teaching commitment will include delivery of topics relating to working in the health sector, person centred care, safeguarding, managing information and data within the health sector, principles of good practice in scientific and clinical settings, and scientific concepts (particularly relating to biology, anatomy and physiology and physiological disorders) at Level 2 and Level 3.
  3. Develop learning resources/materials to meet individual learner needs, devise appropriate assignments and learning programmes and maintain records that support the learning experience.
  4. Work within an agreed curriculum framework and to agreed targets/objectives, and contribute to curriculum development activities.
  5. Accurately assess and monitor student work to ensure high achievement and progression. Undertake internal verification, and prepare samples for the external moderation process.
  6. Undertake administrative tasks and complete returns as required by the Programme Area Manager.
  7. Act as a course manager and/or course tutor as appropriate, providing effective tutorial and pastoral support.
  8. Assist with the recruitment, selection and enrolment of students. Take an active part in marketing activities to support recruitment.
  9. Maintain high levels of student retention and achievement.
  10. Visit students whilst they undertake their vocational placement to assess competence.
  11. Provide accurate and timely data and information including registers, withdrawals and transfers, and progress reports.
  12. Manage the behaviour of students.
  13. Accompany and supervise students on educational and training visits if required.
  14. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Relevant teaching experience delivering Health Care or Science courses at Levels 2 and 3
  • Substantial recent experience of working within the Health Care sector or Science sector
  • Awareness of safeguarding legislation, policies and procedures

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Knowledge of the Quality Assurance systems related to curriculum
  • Experience delivering tutorials / pastoral care to students

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form, interview and assessment*

  • Degree or vocational qualifications in relevant subject area
  • Appropriate teaching qualification (or within specified timescale)
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent L 2)*

Skills / Abilities

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Awareness of modern approaches to the delivery of all programmes
  • The ability for sustained hard work and cope with demanding workloads
  • Computer literate
  • The ability to work within a team and as a course manager
  • Ability to network and make links within the community, including employers
