Job Description

‘Positive Prospects’ Project Worker
£27,055 per annum, pro rata 
30 hours per week
Temporary to 30th June 2025
Two posts available, based at either Lancaster and Carnforth or Morecambe and Heysham

Lancaster and Morecambe College are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic youth worker to support vulnerable young people to make effective transitions into adulthood. This exciting new role, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, will provide a range of interventions to young people (14-25) currently not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) empowering them to re-engage with learning and progress into meaningful employment.  

Essential qualifications include a Level 3 Youth Work or other relevant qualification, and GCSE English and Maths, Grade 4/C or above. Experience of working with young people in a relevant industry and/or education is essential to this role. 

 All posts are subject to a DBS Disclosure in line with our policy of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.  Any specific Safeguarding duties applicable to this post are outlined in the job description.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • Identify and engage with young people not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), supporting them to make effective transitions into adulthood
  • Plan and deliver a range of targeted interventions to reengage young people with education, employment and training
  • Support local schools to identify young people at risk of NEET (RONI) and develop effective interventions to re-engage them with education

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and engage with NEET young people, building positive relationships and empowering them to overcome barriers to learning.

  2. Develop strong links with local secondary schools, employers, community groups and agencies to understand the need and challenges in the district and to identify ways to effectively engage with vulnerable young people.  

  3. Develop resources and deliver an innovative and targeted programme, to include a range of outreach activities and 1-1 interventions, to young people across Lancaster & Carnforth / Morecambe & Heysham, helping to remove barriers to learning, increase confidence and develop key employability skills.Work closely with partner schools to identify young people at risk of NEET (RONI), developing a range of interventions to support them to progress onto LMC’s Young Apprenticeship provision.

  5. Work with the LMC Employer Engagement team and Youth Social Action Officer to identify volunteering and work experience opportunities, supporting economically inactive young people to gain key skills and transition into sustained employment.

  6. Work collaboratively with LMC curriculum teams, developing pathways for young people to access a range of learning opportunities within the community or on LMC campus

  7. Offer practical solutions to young people to transition from NEET to EET, supporting them from the first point of engagement through to application, interview and enrolment. 

  8. Represent LMC at a range of multi-agency and community meetings across the district. 

  9. Work collaboratively with the External Projects team to complete essential administrative tasks to support the efficient running of the projects; robust monitoring and evaluation to ensure impact is understood and insight captured. 

  10. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post, including exam invigilation, as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of working with vulnerable young people in a support/mentoring role
  • Experience of planning and delivering 1-1 and group interventions
  • Accurate recording of information and production of reports
  • Experience of working in partnership with a range of community and support agencies

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of mentoring 
  • Experience of careers advice and guidance
  • Planning and delivering events
  • Knowledge of progression routes within post-16 education
  • Knowledge of equality and diversity 
  • Knowledge of local LMI 

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form

  • Minimum Level 3 Youth Work or other relevant qualification
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)* 

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates
