Job Description

Work Placement Co-ordinator – Young Creatives
£24,654 per annum, pro rata 
22 hours per week
Temporary to 31st March 2026

This role is linked to the Winter Gardens Project which will end on 31st March 2026

Lancaster and Morecambe College are seeking a Work Placement Co-ordinator to organise and supervise student work placements in the Visual, Creative and Digital Studies programme area. You will establish and maintain an excellent collaborative relationship with Morecambe Winter Gardens and Young Creatives Project Team, contributing to the development of the initiative. 

Essential qualifications include a Level 3 in a relevant subject, and GCSE English and Maths, Grade 4/C or above. Experience of working with young people in a relevant industry and/or education is essential to this role. You should hold a full clean driving licence.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

This role is linked to the Winter Gardens Project which will end on 31st March 2026

Job Purpose:  

  • To work alongside Course Tutors and the Young Creatives Project to develop students’ employability skills by establishing relevant work experience and placement opportunities.
  • To support the development of high-quality work/industry placements.
  • To maintain accurate information which demonstrates participation and impact of the work experiences.

During periods when students are on industry placement the postholder will be required to be on call, this may include early and late shifts; if called upon, time off in lieu will be given

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Track and monitor work experience for each individual student and complete all administrative tasks accurately including student records; employer records; Health and Safety checks; and all additional administration associated with industry placement and funding requirements.

  2. Establish and maintain excellent collaborative relationship with Morecambe Winter Gardens and Young Creatives Project Team.

  3. Supervise students on work experience / placement and give formal written feedback as per documentation.

  4. Supervise and manage all work experience and college-based projects, ensuring the maintenance of rigorous Health and Safety procedures and work-related evidence for each learner, working closely with the Health & Safety team to ensure all requirements are in place.

  5. Network with employers/charities/wider community to identify sustained work experience/ placement opportunities for learners.

  6. Work with the Marketing department at Lancaster and Morecambe College to maximise publicity opportunities

  7. Organise, promote and monitor work placement/experience for all students in the programme area for Art & Design and Creative Digital Media, particularly monitoring and supporting opportunities for learners with SEND to access high quality external industry placements in the same way as other learners.

  8. Establish and maintain excellent collaborative relationship with course tutors with the programme area for Art & Design and Creative Digital Media.

  9. Maintain accurate information on student participation and impact in the Young Creatives Project. 

  10. Maintain up to date records of College links with both established and new employers in the local creative digital media organisations.

  11. Attend all course team/Programme Area meetings.

  12. Other duties commensurate with the grade of the post, including exam invigilation, as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of working in a relevant industry and/or education and specifically with young people
  • Experience of working in an administrative role and liaising with employers
  • Experience of financial costing of project work / real jobs etc.
  • Supervisory and operational experience of managing projects within relevant industries

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of delivering training or workshops
  • Knowledge and understanding of FE curriculum

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in administration and/or relevant subject area
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)*

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates
