As a mature student returning to college, I always felt comfortable and welcome. The tutors have been extremely approachable and are flexible to the classes needs. They are always open to questions and have guided us through the work at a steady yet comprehensible pace.

Cat Robertshaw spent nearly twenty years working in theatre before realising that she was drawn to the outdoors, not the dusty backstage spaces of which her work demanded. After coming to this realisation, Cat decided to do something for her and make a career change.

The Eden Land-based & Animal Studies programme at Lancaster & Morecambe College stood out to Cat due to it covering the core fundamentals in animal care and management, whilst specialising in wildlife, ecology and conservation.

I knew that I wanted to learn more about animals and conservation and this sounded like the ideal course for me.

Cat describes her experience on the course so far as being invaluable, and acclaims her tutors for being so accommodating. As an adult learner on a Full-time course, the experience could have been daunting for Cat, however she explains:

The Level 3 Animal Management course offers the opportunity to work with a range of small animals within the College including insects, reptiles, rodents, fish, birds and a variety of farm animals, as well as gaining valuable experience off-site supporting local social action projects.

When asked what advice she would give to anybody considering the course, Cat said:

Go for it! The skills you learn can be utilised in your own home with pets, and it can open up a multitude of options such as university or employment within the plant or animal sector.
