If you are considering a Public Services course at LMC, I would say go for it! The opportunities you receive could change your life. You’ll gain invaluable experience and a qualification that will greatly support your CV.

Emma chose to study Public Services Level 3 at LMC after her experience working part time with FGH Security, which allowed her to discover her passion for ensuring safety within communities. Emma had been working cooperatively with the police in this role and this sparked her interest in joining the police herself in the future.

When investigating what courses could assist Emma in her future application to the police she found Public Services and thought this would be a perfect entry into the industry:

“I chose to study Public Services at Lancaster & Morecambe College as it offered the relevant content and opportunities that would appropriately prepare me for a career within the sector.”

Emma particularly enjoyed the opportunities on her course to meet people working within the Public Services industry. Some of her favourite trips included a day trip to Liverpool to meet dog handlers and a visit to the HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier to speak to naval staff and police patrols.

While the course Emma had chosen was ideal an ideal pathway a career in the police, it also gave her the detailed knowledge, relevant content and opportunities to prepare her for a range of other careers found in the Public Services sector.

Emma explained that she gained valuable skills during her course including spoken and written communication skills, confidence and discipline, expanding her development beyond just her Public Services knowledge:

“The staff, students and courses themselves motivate, encourage and inspire you beyond the basics.”

Since completing her course in 2021, Emma has used the skills and knowledge gained from her course to sucessfully secure a role with Lancashire Constabulary as a Police Community Support Officer.

When asked what advice she would give to someone considering applying for Public Services Level 3, Emma said:
