I made amazing friends at LMC who I would never have met if I hadn’t taken Public Services. I also gained qualifications in GCSE Maths and English as well as Public Services Level 1-5. LMC opened up a window of opportunity for me and I am very thankful for that.

Hollie chose to study at Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC) after only gaining 1 GCSE at high school and struggling with confidence academically and socially.

Since joining College, Hollie has developed massively and credits much of this development to her time at LMC:

I made amazing friends at LMC who I would never have met if I hadn’t taken Public Services. I also gained qualifications in GCSE Maths and English as well as Public Services Level 1-5. LMC opened up a window of opportunity for me and I am very thankful for that.

When describing Public Services, Hollie explained that the course allowed for a mix of practical and theory sessions:

I enjoyed the range of teaching methods, one week we would be taking part in physical activities, the next we would be learning the theory, it was always fun!

Hollie also enjoyed the additional experiences that the Public Services course offered, such as the educational talks that the army, fire service and police presented, the international trip to Poland and the NCS programme completed by her class.

Since leaving LMC, Hollie progressed onto university and is now in her final year of a Criminology and Criminal Justice degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. Hollie’s studies at both College and university have helped her find her desired career and Hollie has now applied for a master’s degree in Psychology Conversion to help her reach her goal of becoming a forensic psychologist.

When asked what advice she would give to someone considering studying Public Services at LMC, Hollie said:

I would say if you are considering it, absolutely apply for Public Services, it has so much to offer. It will help build you as a person and give you the confidence you need to pursue a career path that suits you most. If you are unsure what career path to take, it also really helps guide you in the right direction.
