A real highlight of the T Level course for me was the opportunity to go to Canada and gain work experience at a Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Centre. It was an amazing experience where I learned so much about wildlife care and got to see how animal rehabilitation works in a different country. Opportunities like that make the course exciting and have really confirmed that I’m on the right path.

Molly began her studies at LMC in 2023 after recognising that her previous courses did not align with her career goals. She enrolled onto the T Level Animal Management & Science Level 3 course to pursue her ambition of working in veterinary nursing. Throughout the course, Molly has developed practical skills and increased her confidence, preparing her for a successful future in the veterinary field.

“One of the best parts of my course has been the amount of hands-on experience we get. I’ve worked with a wide range of animals, which has helped me build confidence and develop the practical skills I’ll need for a career in animal care. The tutors are supportive and make the lessons interesting and easy to follow. A real highlight of the T Level course for me was the opportunity to go to Canada and gain work experience at a Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Centre. It was an amazing experience where I learned so much about wildlife care and got to see how animal rehabilitation works in a different country. Opportunities like that make the course exciting and have really confirmed that I’m on the right path.”

Molly chose the T Level course because it matched her personal goals and practical needs for her choose career path. LMC is much closer to home, than her previous college, which makes getting there easier, and the free bus travel helps with transport costs. She liked that the course offers plenty of hands-on experience with different animals, which is important for her career plans in veterinary nursing. The chance to go on international trips also gives her valuable learning opportunities outside the classroom. Overall, the course has been a great fit for her both personally and professionally.

“Another great part of the course has been the people I’ve met. I was a bit nervous at first, especially after switching colleges, but everyone was really welcoming. I’ve made some good friends who share the same interests and career goals, which makes classes and group work a lot more enjoyable. It’s nice being around people who understand your passion for animals, and we’ve supported each other through practicals, assignments, and even on trips like the one to Canada. Having that kind of support has made a big difference to my overall College experience.

In addition to what I’ve learned in class, I’ve also had the chance to gain valuable work experience in a veterinary practice. This placement has given me a real insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of a Veterinary Nurse, and has reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career in this field.”

While at College, Molly developed many of the key skills needed for a career in animal care and veterinary nursing. She gained practical experience working with different animals, learning how to handle them safely and provide basic care. She also built knowledge of animal health, behaviour and welfare to better support their needs. In addition to practical skills, Molly improved her communication, teamwork and problem-solving through class projects and a work placement at a veterinary practice. Managing her time and staying organised helped her balance coursework, practical sessions and placements. These skills have prepared her well for the veterinary field and boosted her confidence in reaching her career goals.

“My biggest accomplishment so far at college has been growing both personally and academically. Starting a new course was a big change, especially as I’m autistic, but I’ve pushed myself to adapt, meet new people, and build confidence in unfamiliar environments. One of the achievements I’m most proud of is completing my work placement at a veterinary practice, where I was able to apply what I’ve learned in a real-world setting. Academically, I’ve consistently achieved high grades across my units and completed a specialist project on The Psychological Impact of Patient Loss on Veterinary Professionals. It allowed me to explore an important topic that isn’t often talked about and showed me how much I enjoy research and deeper learning. It’s taken determination and effort, but I’ve proven to myself that I’m capable of reaching my goals.”

Molly said the course gave her a solid foundation in animal care, health and behaviour, which are key for anyone looking to work with animals. She chose the course because it prepared her well for moving on to a Veterinary Nursing Degree. The skills and knowledge she gained will help make the transition to university easier and support her success in higher level studies. Overall, Molly sees the course as an important step towards her career in the veterinary field.

“If you’re thinking about doing this course, I’d say it’s a great choice if you love animals and want to learn more about how to care for them properly. The course is well rounded; it covers everything from Animal Biology & Behaviour to practical skills like feeding, handling and health checks. While there is a good amount of classroom learning, there are also plenty of practical sessions and real opportunities to work directly with animals, which helps make the lessons more interesting and easier to understand.

You’ll get to meet like-minded people who share your passion, which makes the whole experience more enjoyable. The course also teaches you how to work professionally, manage your time and solve problems, which are skills you’ll need no matter what career path you choose. Altogether, it’s a great way to gain real experience and confidence in working with animals, and it opens lots of doors for future study or jobs in animal care.”
