This course is for students who wish to work in the plumbing industry in preparation for an apprenticeship.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The course can lead onto the Level 3 in Plumbing, an Apprenticeship or an NVQ if employed within the plumbing industry.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

• 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including maths/English and a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in maths or English.

• Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

This course involves industry related practical workshop skills and exam based theory work.

Practical skills include:

• Copper Work

• Steel

• Sanitation

• Installation of Bathrooms Hot Water Cylinders

• Plastic Pipe Work

Theory work includes:

• Safety

• Scientific Principles

• Central Heating

• Hot Water Installation

• Cold Water Installation

• Communication

• Site Preparation

• Rainwater

• Above ground damage

• Environment

All LMC students will receive tutorial support. Students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and Maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.

If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths & English Functional Skills.

Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, practical performance, projects, portfolio presentation, exam and course work.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive BPEC Level 2 Foundation Diploma in Plumbing and Heating that links to the apprenticeship programme.
