This course offers the opportunity to learn the skills necessary for employment in the Beauty Therapy profession. You will learn techniques which are in demand from employers in the Beauty Therapy industry.

Beauty Therapy Level 2 is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in the industry.

You will be in College 3 days a week which will equate to a mix of practical and theory classes tailored to suit the needs of the course, additional home study will also be expected for you to complete your units.

On completion of this course you will receive a City and Guilds Level 2 in Beauty Therapy.

Course Overview

Topics to be covered will include: working in beauty related industries, maintaining health & safety in the salon, client care & communication, provide facial & skin care, promoting additional products or services to clients, waxing techniques, provide manicure & pedicure treatments, providing eyelash & brow treatments, creating an image based on a theme, applying & maintaining nail enhancements and salon reception duties.

These activities will be tailored around the standards within the City and Guilds units, to give you a clear understanding of the subject and inform you of improvements to be made found through tutor observation and feedback. You will be assessed on your practical performance and online exams.

Each year there are various trips organised by the department which relate to your course - some are free and others may incur a small cost. One example is our visit to Media City Manchester on the BBC tour.

The College also welcomes in guest speakers including Steiner Cruise Liner representatives who carry out a presentation about what is involved when working on a cruise ship and inform students about their recruitment days.

In addition, optional additional training sessions run throughout the year depending on demand, including: spray tanning, lash lifting and ear piercing.

Industry Links

All students are expected to carry out 50 hours of work experience within the beauty industry, this may take place in a beauty or nail salon.

Progression Routes

Students may choose to continue their studies within College by progressing onto one of the following courses:

  • Hair & Media Make-up Level 2

  • Beauty Therapy Level 3

  • Theatrical & Media Make-up Level 3

Upon completion of this course students will also have the opportunity to move into entry level jobs within the Beauty Therapy industry, roles may include:

  • Beauty Therapist

  • Beauty Consultant

  • Nail Technician

  • Salon Receptionist

Entry Requirements

To study this course, you must:

  • Show enthusiasm for the subject area

  • Show evidence of good skills in practical subjects

  • Enjoy working with other people and possess good interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrate a commitment to study

  • Be able to work independently

  • Be willing to practise treatments on other students & clients

Students must also have 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including English or Maths OR a related Level 1 qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in English or Maths.
