What is Distance Learning?

Distance learning is a way of learning remotely without being in regular face-to-face contact with a teacher or an assessor. With distance learning you can study at home or at work. The materials are produced in conjunction with the awarding body (NCFE) and are given out during your induction meeting. You will then be given deadlines by your assessor to complete each section of the pack, which is usually expected to take 16 weeks in total. You can get regular support from your assessor via phone or email. There may be occasions where you can see your assessor face-to-face for any help or guidance, if needed.

The advantages to studying via distance learning are that it allows you to fit your learning around your life and work commitments and that you can decide when and where you study. If you would like to study one of our distance learning packages you will need to complete an application form or contact the training coordinator for distance learning as specified on the course sheet for each course.

Once you have applied you will be asked to complete an initial assessment in Literacy to ensure you are working at the right level in your English skills to complete the course. You will then be allocated an assessor who will provide you with the learning materials needed to complete the course. You will also get an individual learning plan with dates for submission for the units you will study.

You will then work through the units and submit them. Your assessor will mark them and provide you with feedback, until your qualification is completed.

Many of the distance learning courses that are listed above derive through our partnership with The Skills Network.
