In specialist cases, some learning opportunities are offered to learners which need to be agreed between a school, social services, Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC) and/or the Local Education Authority.
LMC's specialised programmes are offered to learners in Year 10-Year 11:
The College enters a contract with the school or Local Authority to agree which aspects of the learner’s programme it is responsible for. The learner remains on their school or Local Authority roll throughout their learning.
Lancaster & Morecambe College has a limited number of places available for learners aged 14-16 who are elected home educated. Learners can study full-time with the College, whilst these learners are funded by the Education Funding Agency, the College is not responsible for delivering key Stage 4 curriculum to the learners. Year 11 applications will take prority and only in exceptional circumstances will a Year 10 place be allocated.
Learners will only be guaranteed a place following an assessment and selection process, which will determine their suitability to the course and the College, and whether the individual will thrive within the College environment.
Assessment and selection days will be held in June.
This provision aims to support and enable young people in Year 11 to access an innovative and supportive technical education, providing employability skills to support career progression.
Individual referrals for the Year 11 programme can be made throughout the academic year but, must come from schools, social services, or other educational establishments, which can fund the placement for the learner. Only in exceptional circumstances will a Year 10 place be offered, and this will be on a part time basis.
Please note, private funding is not accepted.
Once a referral is made, an application form and schools referral form must be completed. An interview with the school, parents/guardians and the young person will be arranged. Prior to the interview, references will be requested from the school, this must include a full disclosure of learners attitude, behaviour, any learning needs including Educational Health Care Plan and attendance. An interview for the programme, does not guarantee a place within the College. Following the interview the College will review all the information and confirm whether a place can be offered.
Learners can study technical and vocational programmes at Entry 3 - Level 1, from a variety of subjects including;
Each Pathway includes Functional Skills Maths & English, unless the learner is assessed as GCSE standard.
The College has a limited number of places available for this provision and will prioritise year 11 learners.
