Having the opportunity to volunteer with so many activities was something I really enjoyed. It increased my confidence and helped me develop new skills which helped me get where I am today. I specifically enjoyed helping out at opening evenings and helping people make the big decisions when it comes to further education.

Grace is currently doing a Business Support with Marketing Apprenticeship and working at Lancaster & Morecambe College in the Marketing department within the Engagement Team.

Grace completed a variety of courses before finding the right one for her including Hair & Beauty Level 1 then progressing onto the Travel & Tourism Level 3. Grace discovered that on the Travel & Tourism course she really enjoyed creating promotional content and running events. As part of this course she was involved in planning and running an event, her team chose to run a giant board game where they were tasked with creating every part of the event.

In high school I always wanted to be a hairdresser, but soon discovered that Hairdressing wasn’t the right choice for me. I realised that when working in the salons I enjoyed the customer service side, and this is why I decided to move into the travel industry. The aspects of the Travel course that I enjoyed the most were the running/planning of events and promotional projects. I developed a passion for marketing and soon realised that this was the career path for me.

Grace did not particularly enjoy high school and found that moving to College rather than sixth form was a good choice for her.

The college environment is so different to the school environment. I did not enjoy school, and College feels completely different. Being a student in College you are treated more like an adult, the main differences are being able to call tutors by their first name, not being refused to go to the toilet and being expected to manage your own work load.

During her time at college Grace was a Student Ambassador and participated in many voluntary events/activities, such as open days and athletics events.

Having the opportunity to volunteer with so many activities was something I really enjoyed. It increased my confidence and helped me develop new skills which helped me get where I am today. I specifically enjoyed helping out at opening evenings and helping people make the big decisions when it comes to further education.

When working as a Student Ambassador Grace was informed of a Marketing Apprentice job role at the college that had opened up and applied.

I expressed my interest in marketing and was informed of an Assistant Marketing Apprentice opportunity that was available at College. I was successful in my application to work at LMC which is an amazing opportunity for me to develop my skills in an environment I am familiar with and knowledgeable about.

When asked the reasons she chose to study at Lancaster & Morecambe College she said:

I love that all tutors are industry professionals so they can share their personal experiences with you. If you are not sure what career you want, but have an interest in a certain area, you should follow your passion because at LMC you get the chance to learn about all the different career opportunities and gain the skills and qualities you would need for a job in that area.
