This course is for students who wish to work in the construction industry and progress onto level 3 or an apprenticeship.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The course can lead on to Diploma Level 3 Bricklaying or Bricklaying Apprenticeship.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

You will study the following:

• Health, safety and welfare in construction (online test)

• Principles of building construction, information and communication (online test)

• Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding

• Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers

• Interpreting working drawing to set out masonry structures

• Construct cavity walling forming masonry structure

All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including maths and English.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study

Functional English and Maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths & English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, practical performance, examination, portfolio presentation and course work.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying and the Basic Skills CSCS card.
