This course is for students who wish to work in the construction industry and progress onto level 3 or an apprenticeship.
This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.
The course can lead on to Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery or Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English.
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
You will study the following:
• Using portable power tools
• Fixing skirtings, architraves and hinged doors
• 1st Fixing Before Plastering
• 2nd Fixing After Plastering
• Structural Carcassing
• Using Circular Saws
All LMC students will receive tutorial support throughout the course.
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and Maths qualifications or GCSE Mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths & English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, practical performance, examination, portfolio presentation and course work.
On completion of this course you will be awarded the Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery City & Guilds.
