This course is designed to help you develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours in the Residential Childcare industry. The aim of the course is to support learners in taking their first steps into this specialist world, and build upon the skills already developed with employers.

Residential Childcare Level 3 focusses on safeguarding, behaviour, and the legislation that guides those who work with vulnerable children and young people.
The course is delivered through a blended approach with a mix of face to face and online learning to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to be successful in your career.

The ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ scheme allows students aged 19+ to access a Level 3 qualification for free, with support available from the Government, helping adults to gain skills that employers value and improve job prospects.

  • Support and promote the rights, diversity and equality of children and young people in residential childcare

  • Support working in teams to benefit children and young people in residential childcare

  • Professional development in residential childcare

  • The care system and its impact on children and young people

  • Residential childcare for children and young people with complex disabilities or conditions

Industry Links

Throughout the course you will benefit from delivery from trainers who have worked in the industry and so can give you an insight into their experiences. You will also have the opportunity for a question and answer session with current staff members employed in the residential sector. They will be able to give you a ‘real time’ insight into the industry, its challenges, and how they have adapted to overcome these.

Progression Routes

Upon completion of this course, learners are able to progress into job roles within the Residential Childcare sector. With experience, learners may take on more responsibility as a senior support worker or manager, or train as a social worker.

Entry Requirements

There is no formal age restriction for this qualification, however, due to legislative requirements within the industry, all applicants must be in a suitable job role and have the agreement of their employer to undertake the qualification.

Other entry requirements include:

  • A satisfactory DBS check

  • An enthusiasm for with children/young people with additional needs

  • A commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour)

  • Being able to work independently

Course Fees

This course costs £2882.00, including exam fees.

You may be eligible for free study if you are 23 or under and this is your first full Level 2 or 3 course. Alternatively, if you are unemployed, receiving an eligible benefit, and taking the course to help you find employment.
