The Level 2 qualification is designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environment. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.
The Volunteer Teaching Assistant Programme will take place every Wednesday at College and you’ll receive support with:
CV writing and interview preparation
Securing a school placement
Arranging your DBS check
Units include:
Communication Skills for Work - Learn how to communicate effectively in professional environments, with a focus on supporting pupils and working as part of a school team.
Working with Young Children - Understand the basics of child development, safeguarding, and how to support learning and wellbeing in a classroom setting.
On completion of the Volunteer Teaching Assistant Programme you will be enrolled onto the Full Programme beginning in February.
You will gain a nationally recognised NCFE qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, which enables you to work in any school or college across the UK. The course is internally assessed and involves creating a portfolio of evidence covering 11 units, along with practical workplace observations. To complete the programme, you will attend college one day a week every Wednesday and commit to a minimum of one day per week at a school placement, allowing you to apply your learning in a real educational setting.
On completion of the full programme you will be awarded a Teaching Assistant Level 2 Certificate a nationally recognised qualification.
You will learn the skills to be work ready in the UK through group exercises and worksheets to build a portfolio of evidence to gain a qualification.
One successful completeion of this course you’re now qualified to work in a classroom. You can continue volunteering or begin applying for roles. We’ll support your job search through our partnership with Reed Recruitment, which connects candidates to local opportunities.

There are no formal entry requirements to this course.
This course costs £84.00, including exam fees.
You may be eligible for free study if you are 23 or under and this is your first full Level 2 or 3 course. Alternatively, if you are unemployed, receiving an eligible benefit, and taking the course to help you find employment.
