Choosing to study in the Health and Social Care department at Lancaster & Morecambe College will give you access to exciting programmes of study across all levels, taught by well qualified tutors with industry experience. Progression through the qualifications levels is encouraged and supported. You will undertake work experience as part of your course, in a variety of settings, where you can apply what you have learnt in the classroom to practical experiences. The Health and Social Care sector is one of the largest employers in the local area so the courses can lead to fantastic job opportunities. If you choose the Apprenticeship route, you will have access to an experienced and knowledgeable assessor throughout the work-based qualification.

Previous students have gone on to study a variety of courses at degree level including mental health, adult and children’s nursing, as well as psychology and radiology degrees. University destinations have included Leeds University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moores, UCLan and the University of Cumbria. Students can also progress onto a Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Health and Social Care here at Lancaster & Morecambe College. Employment opportunities include care assistant or care manager in residential and domiciliary care, as well as youth and community work and clinical support worker.

What do I need to join?
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English.
Relevant work experience will also be considered
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
An apprenticeship in a genuine job, with training, meaning apprentices learn and gain skills and professional competencies in their chosen career, whilst receiving a wage.
Apprenticeships are suitable for well-motivated people who are focussed and know which career path they want to follow. They offer high quality work-based training as an alternative to full time study.
This programme is aimed at people who are employed, or are seeking employment. You will need to be 16 years of age or over. Apprenticeships are available at level 2 and level 3.
