The Level 4 modules lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to Fine Art. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing students for specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility.
Students will gain a wide range of fine art knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace.
By the end of Level 4, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of fine art. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of fine art.
At level 4 students complete the following module:
Module A Process & Practice which has two parts: A1 Concept & Development, A2 Creative Project.
Learners are expected to be in College for up to three days a week and will need to complete regular home study.
While on the course you will complete a variety of projects through which you will develop a range of practical skills and develop your practice through material and contextual investigation. The assignments will be linked to a vocational context, and, whenever possible, working for a real client.
During the programme you will have the opportunity to explore personal themes and concerns, using a range of media. It is a primarily studio based course where you will spend time building an individual portfolio of work.
Where possible there will be organised trips to galleries, studios and museums.
