Catering Assistant Job Ref: BS1465
£22,070 per annum, pro rata (£11.44 an hour)
20 hours per week
Term-time only (38 weeks per year)
To start on 27th August 2024

Lancaster & Morecambe College are seeking an enthusiastic catering assistant to join the team. You will undertake a range of catering services including receiving deliveries, food preparation, food service, supporting the delivery of hospitality orders, cleaning tasks and general catering duties.

You should have excellent customer service skills and experience in a catering or retail setting.

*Total pay is divided into 12 equal monthly payments to ensure consistent pay throughout the year

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

  • To undertake a range of catering services and retail duties including supporting the delivery of hospitality orders, food preparation, food service, cleaning tasks in the Lounge, helping in the Retail shop and other duties as required

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Support the high-quality delivery and clearance of hospitality services to internal and external customers.

  2. Assist in the college retail shop as required in term time, providing excellent customer service and assisting with restocking, stocktaking and deliveries.

  3. Adhere to the College’s compulsory hygiene systems and food hygiene regulations as part of a daily routine.

  4. Co-operate with, and assist students when they undertake work experience within the various catering services and retail operations.

  5. Clean the Lounge, kitchens and surrounding areas including equipment and other general cleaning duties to high standard of hygiene appropriate to the food industry, as required by the Catering Services Manager, Catering Services Team Leader or their nominee.

  6. Maintenance of cash control procedures in line with college audit requirements, including the use of tills and cash collection.

  7. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required, which may include duties in any part of the College, its annexes or other external venues.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of working in a professional catering and retail operation/outlet
  • Experience of providing a service to customers in a catering/hospitality/retail setting

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of working in an education environment
  • Experience of supporting students on work experience

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form and certificates 

  • Food Hygiene (a good candidate will be supported to achieve asap after appointment) 

Desirable - Measured by application form and certificates

  • NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality & Catering

Skills / Abilities

Essential - Measured by application form, interview and skills test

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • An understanding of good customer service skills

  • A pleasant disposition and willingness to adapt to people and circumstances
  • Dress in professional work wear to College standard. (Jewellery may only be worn at the discretion of the Catering Services Manager)

  • Suitability to work with young people and vulnerable adults
