Lecturer in Accounting (AAT Accredited) (0.8 Fractional Post)

Hours per week are negotiable
Salary up to £34,680 per annum (pro rata for fractional posts), depending on qualifications and experience
Plus £2,000 per annum (pro rata for fractional posts) Shortage Skills Allowanc

Lancaster and Morecambe College are seeking an accountancy professional with a desire to pass on their skills to the next generation of accountants. Taking a lead in developing specialist training in Accountancy ranging from short courses to apprenticeship provision and working with local employers, you will be pro-active in promoting Accountancy courses; teaching on AAT accredited courses up to Level 4; and responding to employers’ training needs.  

You should be qualified to a minimum of Level 4 in AAT/ACCA or equivalent, as well as holding an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to achieve this within a specified timescale.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

  • To provide high quality teaching and learning, specifically contributing to the development of the programme area’s expertise in delivering AAT professional accounting qualifications and adult provision.
  • To support learners in reaching their academic and personal goals leading to their positive progression.  
  • To respond to local employers’ training needs and promote our courses in industry

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. A teaching commitment in line with College policy as agreed annually with the Apprenticeship Manager. You will plan and deliver teaching/learning programme using a flexible range of engaging strategies to promote learning, taking responsibility for the continual development of own teaching and related curriculum.

  2. Develop learning resources/materials to meet individual learner needs, promote independent learning skills, devise appropriate assignments, tutorials and learning programmes and maintain records that support the learning experience.

  3. Actively promote Accountancy courses to local employers and respond to their training needs.

  4. Work within an agreed curriculum framework and to agreed targets/objectives, and contribute to curriculum development activities.

  5. Undertake administrative tasks as required by the Apprenticeship Manager.

  6. Act as a course manager and/or course tutor as appropriate, supporting the apprenticeship provision developing appropriate skills, knowledge and behaviours of all learners.

  7. Work effectively with apprenticeship lead co-ordinator and trainers to monitor learner progress and intervention strategies where required.

  8. Assist with recruitment, selection and enrolment, providing high quality information, advice and guidance to students.

  9. Promote and support the positive behaviour of students.

  10. Accompany and supervise students on educational and training visits if required.

  11. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Recent and relevant experience of working in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience of training and developing staff/candidates 
  • Relevant teaching, learning and assessment experience delivering accounting courses up to level 3 

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of teaching within the FE sector
  • Experience of assessing candidates against curriculum standards

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form, interview and assessment*

  • AAT/ACCA or equivalent qualified to level 4 minimum
  • Minimum Level 3 teaching qualification (or to achieve within specified timescale)
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)* 

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates 

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Level 3 & 4 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent (or willingness to undertake following completion of initial teacher education qualification)
