Job Description

Site Supervisor – Security 
Salary £23,890 per annum
37 hours per week

Lancaster and Morecambe College are seeking a Site Supervisor to ensure the security safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors. 

Ideally you will have previous experience in security or caretaking, including CCTV monitoring, and will be able to carry out minor repairs and building/grounds maintenance work, including the capacity to to lift heavy equipment and be contactable out of hours for emergency callouts. 

*You must hold a current driving licence and have access to your own vehicle*.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose: 

  • To ensure the security, safety and wellbeing of the College, its students, staff and bona fide visitors 
  • To carry out periodic inspections to safety, fire management and accessibility equipment.
  • To assist with room utilisation auditing.
  • To protect the property of the College, students, staff and visitors against damage, theft or abuse
  • To supervise the arrival and departure of college buses 
  • To undertake caretaking and other facilities/estates related duties.

The Site Supervisor - Security is required to work 37 hours per week, mainly on a day shift.             

There may be a requirement to work weekends as necessary, for which normal hourly payment will be made. Additional hours may be required during busy College periods. It must be understood that these hours may alter at any time to suit circumstances that arise, and during College vacation periods. Holidays must be taken out of term time by agreement with the Estates Manager, so that cover is available at all times. 

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in providing a safe and secure working environment for students, staff and visitors to the College.

  2. Undertake regular patrols of the college buildings and external areas checking for and dealing with damage or vandalism. Monitor student behaviour, ensuring adherence to the Student Code of Conduct.

  3. Regularly monitor the Colleges CCTV cameras for suspicious activities ensuring at all times that any data or information provided from CCTV camera images is disclosed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

  4. Record all incidents in the appropriate format and write concise and accurate incident reports. Report any criminal related matters to the Local Police and assist them in providing any necessary evidence relating to the incident(s).

  5. Be part of the College’s Site Supervision team unlocking and securing the buildings and attending out of hours alarm activation as a result of fire or intruder alarm activations and organise any temporary repairs.

  6. Periodically inspect and record details of the college fire management systems and equipment, accessibility, emergency lighting and meter readings

  7. Assist with the auditing of classrooms checking each rooms usage complies with timetables.

  8. Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, routine inspections and general assistance around the site

  9. Act as a first aider. 

  10. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Previous experience in the security sector/CCTV operations and monitoring
  • Experience in carrying out a full range of minor repairs and routine maintenance work

Desired - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience in conflict management
  • Experience of working with young or vulnerable adults

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Willingness to complete appropriate courses as required e.g. First Aid (it may be necessary to complete these in the appointee’s own time)

  • CCTV/Security Guarding Licence (SIA)
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or Level 2 – support available to achieve)

Skills / Attributes

Essential 

  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing
  • Calm demeanour and able to diffuse situations of conflict or tension
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment within the scope of the Manual Handling/Lifting regulations and capable of climbing steps and ladders
  • Capable of working on own initiative and as part of a team and of working under pressure

Desirable 

  • A working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
