Eden is happening! We were thrilled to be invited to take part in the official groundbreaking celebration at the site of Eden Project Morecambe.
The event, which was attended by hundreds of local people, started with an informative and entertaining Community Conversation in the cool surroundings of the Winter Gardens, where the main contractors VINCI outlined the plans for the construction and development of the project; it was so exciting to see an animation of the whole Eden build taking shape. Particularly interesting was the presentation around social value and the impact Eden will have on local and regional communities, and how our students will benefit from opportunities for work placements and apprenticeships.
Closing the Community Conversation, Eden's CEO, Andy Jaspar, invited everyone to join them outside for the "before construction" celebration and then unveiled an 8ft ceremonial spade, which had been crafted by LMC Construction & Engineering students! As hundreds of people gathered on the memorial gardens in the scorching sunshine, the Morecambe & Heysham Brass Band kept everyone entertained with a fine rendition of (what else?) Bring Me Sunshine. It was great to see LMC front and centre of the whole event, with our electric digger in position and the gigantic spade (literally) doing the heavy lifting!
