European Mobility / Work Experience Projects
Lancaster & Morecambe College have been running European work experience projects for over a decade and were one of the first colleges in the UK to receive the Leonardo Certificate in Quality for Mobility. (Mobility in this context basically means a period of training, learning or work abroad). This was in recognition for our commitment to offering high quality European work placements and developing a strategic approach to embedding this activity across the curriculum.
As we are now half way through the Erasmus+ programme we will seek to continue to widen the opportunities for our staff and students; these include new Engineering and Construction placements in Denmark, Hospitality, Tourism & Business placements in Italy, Animal Care shadowing in Poland and Sports Leadership & Coaching placements in the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Slovakia to add to our existing project portfolio.
In 2015/16 the Erasmus+ KA1 Mobility programme provided subsistence and funding for 100+ students and staff to undergo training, work placements and job shadowing abroad. That was called STEM: Structured Training and European Mobility.
In 2016/17 we have taken the next steps in the STEM2: Structured Training and European Mobility2 mobility project with some new international offers and furthered this with a new project called OWLE: Opportunities to Work and Learn in Europe.
LMC are celebrating 30 years from Erasmus to Erasmus+ and are inviting your stories and experiences following your mobility experiences abroad. We want your photographs and captions to share the possibilities of working and studying abroad for future students. Contact the International Team for more information.
Past European Student Work Experience Projects

Summer Camp for Kids - Bulgaria
This work experience project is funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) and has evolved in the last decade into an established work experience opportunity for students in the Sport and Public Services fields at LMC. The carefully selected students go for an intensive 3 week placement with Znanie Association where they develop, lead and manage summer camp activities for young children on the Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria. This is a unique chance for LMC students and the visiting children to learn about each other's cultures and languages and gain an invaluable experience.

This work experience project was also originally funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) and involves LMC sending Sports and Public Services students to Slovakia to lead outdoor camps for local children under the auspices of KERIC, a social, non-profit foundation in Cadca. These activities include: trekking, language activities, swimming events, horse riding and team building in the Tatra Mountains. This camp placement has developed over several years and can be life changing for the students who are lucky enough to take part.

The zoo validates the work experience for the lucky students, and the work plan is carefully designed to reflect the academic and practical elements on their main course at LMC.
EuroCare - Spain & Netherlands
This work experience project funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) involves LMC students in Health Care and Nursing Cadets to Spain and The Netherlands for 3 weeks work experience.
