Lancaster & Morecambe College have been running European work experience projects for over a decade and were one of the first colleges in the UK to receive the Leonardo Certificate in Quality for Mobility. This was in recognition for our commitment to offering high quality European work placements and developing a strategic approach to embedding this activity and other aspects of lifelong learning across the curriculum.

STEM4VET - Structured Training & European Mobility for Vocational Education and Training in Erasmus+

As we enter into the new era of the Erasmus+ Programme, LMC are seeking to widen the opportunities for our staff and students; these include new Engineering and Construction placements in Denmark, Hospitality & Catering, Health & Child Care placements in Abruzzo, Italy and Sports & Coaching placements in the Netherlands to add to our existing project portfolio. We will continue to send students to some of our existing placement destinations that have enjoyed great successes over the years.

In the Erasmus+ KA1 programme, work placement (mobility) activities are now grouped together under just one title but still offer diverse experiences across the wider curriculum. New Erasmus+ training opportunities have also widened the offer for staff development at LMC.

Let’s Make I.T. Work - Czech Republic

This work experience project was originally funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) and it allowed LMC to send IT students to the Czech Republic for 3 weeks work experience in the IT industry. The hosting partner Alvit Innovation and Education have close links with established and start-up IT companies who validated this vital work experience in a local incubator centre.

European Nurse Exchange – The Netherlands

This work experience project was originally funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) saw LMC send students of Health & Social Care to the Netherlands for 3 weeks work experience in Leeuwarden, Friesland. The hosting partner in this project, De Plannenmakers, helped design and validate the work experience at a local care centre. Feedback was very positive with all learners enjoying a different cultural and working experience.

Summer Camp for Kids - Bulgaria

This work experience project was originally funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) and has evolved in the last decade into an established work experience opportunity for students in the Sport and Public Services fields at LMC. The carefully selected students go for an intensive 3 week placement with Znanie Association where they develop, lead and manage summer camp activities for young children on the Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria. This is a unique chance for LMC students and the visiting children to learn about each other's cultures and languages and gain an invaluable experience. This project is about to enter its twelfth year!

Coaching Outdoor Pursuits for Kids - Slovakia

This work experience project was also originally funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) and involves LMC sending Sports and Public Services students to Slovakia to lead outdoor camps for local children under the auspices of KERIC, a social, non-profit foundation in Cadca. These activities include: trekking, language activities, swimming events, horse riding and team building in the Tatra Mountains. This camp placement has developed over several years and can be life changing for the students who are lucky enough to take part.

EuroZoo - Poland

This work experience project was originally funded by the Leonardo Mobility stream of the Lifelong Learning Programme (now Erasmus+) is run in partnership with ‘Oliwa’ Zoo in Gdansk, Poland. LMC Animal Care students undergo a 3 week work experience in the main zoo, working in their selected animal specialist section. The zoo validates the work experience for the lucky students, and the work plan is carefully designed to reflect the academic and practical elements on their main course at LMC. It is hoped there will be a new placement here in 2017/18.
