THE UPSKILLING LANCASHIRE PROJECT

The UpSkilling Lancashire project is part funded by the European Social Fund, and supports Lancashire based SMEs and micro-businesses to increase the skills and capability of their employees, enabling the business to compete regionally, nationally and internationally.

The Project Team assists businesses to identify, design, develop and implement work-force education and training programmes linked to the strategic needs of the business. The Project also offers advice and guidance regarding networks for business support services, and allows the business to upskill a workforce via an Apprenticeship scheme with LMC, Distance Learning, or completing a free Leading Lancashire course

Am I eligible?

To qualify for the UpSkilling Lancashire project your business must meet the following criteria:

  • Based in Lancashire
  • Employ 250 employees or less
  • Have either an annual turnover that is equal to or less than 50million Euros or a balance sheet total that is equal to or less than 43million Euros

What does the project involve?

A member of the project team will visit you to discuss your business plans and objectives. They will support your business to identify, design, develop and implement work-force education and training programmes linked to the strategic needs of your business. The project will prepare the business to engage in the provision of a range of apprenticeships for current and future employees.

Health & Safety

Dates of workshops:
25 August 2021

Location:
Employer Hub at Lancaster & Morecambe 

This short one day workshop aims to provide you with understanding and knowledge of health & safety. This is a college certified course designed to ensure that you are aware of your own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public.
The workshop consists of the following units:

  • Understand the responsibilities placed on employers and employees
  • Understand the hazards, risks and main causes of harm to workers
  • Understand the importance of following systems, procedures and rules
  • Understand how individual action can reduce risks to health and safety
  • Appreciate how workplace equipment and task design affect health and safety

Risk Assessment

22 July and 17 August 2021

This short one day workshop is designed to help improve workplace culture and occupational health & safety by enabling you to understand the basic principles of risk assessment. This course is suitable for anyone in a work environment as it raises your awareness of risk assessment
The workshop consists of the following units:

  • How to maintain a safe work environment
  • The process of formal risk assessment
  • Legal requirements for risk assessment
  • Principles of risk assessment including: Hazards, risks and control measures
  • The five steps of risk assessments
  • The hierarchy of control
  • Risk assessment review and record keeping

Manual Handling

Date and time
27 July and 24 August 2021, 9am-1pm

Duration
1/2 day

This course includes:

  • The potential hazards of manual handling in the workplace
  • Legislation and guidance
  • Controlling and reducing the risk of harm
  • Manual handling techniques

There will be an opportunity for some light practical exercises but these are optional.  The course will run from 0900 to 1300 with a short break. There is a multi-choice question paper assessment at the end.
