The course is a great opportunity to learn new skills and techniques. It's also allowed me to build so many new friendships with like-minded people who share the same passion for beauty.
Kenzie chose to study Beauty Therapy at Lancaster & Morecambe College because the course offered her the chance to explore lots of different aspects within the beauty industry, including facial & skin care, waxing techniques, manicure & pedicure treatments, eyelash & brow treatments, client care & communications and salon reception duties.
I wanted to study at LMC because it offered me more than other colleges in the area. I was particularly interested in nail treatments like acrylics and gels, so I was really pleased that these were included as part of the course. The wide range of units gave me the chance to try different aspects of beauty before discovering what I enjoyed most
Throughout the course, Kenzie has developed an extensive range of practical skills, including massage techniques, eyelash extensions and acrylic nail application. Alongside her technical ability, she has also grown in confidence and strengthened her communication skills, enabling her to build strong relationships with clients.
The course is a great opportunity to learn new skills and techniques. It's also allowed me to build so many new friendships with like-minded people who share the same passion for beauty, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
During her studies, Kenzie secured a role at the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House Spa Space, where she delivers a variety of professional beauty treatments using the skills she developed at College. This experience has allowed her to build confidence in a real spa environment while gaining valuable industry experience.
Whilst on the Beauty course I was offered the chance to work at the Gilpin Hotel Spa, this experience taught me how to work professionally and communicate professionally with my team and clients. I feel much more prepared for the industry now than I did when I started.
After completing her Beauty Therapy course, Kenzie plans to progress onto the Theatrical Media Make-Up Level 3 course at Lancaster & Morecambe College, where she is looking forward to building on her existing skills and exploring the creative world of theatrical and media makeup.
The most satisfying part of my job role is inspiring students to have the confidence to become beauty therapists and work in their dream careers.
I really enjoy being part of the LMC Beauty Team and working within the department. Watching my students grow and develop their ideas and skillsets week on week is a really exciting part of my role, particularly when I can see them challenging themselves to get creative and try out new and different ideas.
My favourite part of this role is working with such an amazing team here at Lancaster & Morecambe College, and also being able to pass on my industry knowledge to all my students and support them in their journey to becoming a Beauty Therapist.
I would say come to College, study Beauty Therapy, be pampered, pamper clients, but be prepared to work hard for the qualifications to get far in the industry. It's a very rewarding career to go into, putting smiles on clients faces and giving them a new found confidence.
I would say to anyone wanting to start a career in Hair and Makeup within the Film and Television industry if you are serious and committed to it then go for it! It is an extremely competitive and fast paced environment but if you are willing to put the work in you will be able to do some amazing projects, travel and progress artistically.
