This is a very practical course which explores a broad range of Art and Design specialist areas.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience. The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The course can lead on to employment or more normally onto a higher education course at HND, Foundation Degree or Degree Level. Your tutors will help you with progression opportunities.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including Maths and English OR a Level 2 related qualification at Merit or Distinction PLUS grade C/4 or higher in BOTH Maths and English.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

In year 1 you will study the following units:

• Introduction to visual language

• Introduction to research skills

• Introduction to critical and contextual awareness

• Introduction to materials, processes and technical skills

• An integrated approach to 2D problem solving in art and design

• And integrated approach to 3D problem solving in art and design

• An integrated approach to time-based problem solving in art and design

• Developing an art and design project

• Opportunities for progression in art and design

The first year will introduce a wide range of practical art & design skills to help you identify your strengths by working across a broad range of media and techniques.

In year 2 you will study the following units:

• Characteristics and contexts in art and design/photography

• Preparation for progression in art and design/photography

• Engaging with an audience in art and design/photography

• Project proposal and realisation in art and design/photography

The second year of the course allows you to further develop your skills and specialise in a number of areas. Students from this course have gone on to study a wide range of courses in Higher Education.

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, coursework and projects, but primarily through portfolio presentation.

What qualification will I get?

In year one you will complete a Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design. On successful completion of year one, students can complete a second year to achieve a UAL Awarding Body Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

This is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is a recognised route into Higher Education.
