This full time level 2 course will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to be able to cut and style men’s hair and facial hair.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

It can lead on to Level 3 in Hairdressing, Barbering and employment within a barbering salon.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

You may cover a range of the following topics:

• Health & Safety

• Consultation

• Shampoo & condition

• Promote products and services

• Cut men's hair

• Cut facial hair

• Style men's hair

The course is delivered covering both theoretical and practical aspects of the qualification with demonstrations and practical workshops.

All students aged 16-19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE maths and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths & English Functional Skills.

Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including practical observation, online tests and assignments, and the production of a portfolio of work.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a City & Guilds Level 2 in Barbering.
