My biggest accomplishment since leaving College is the progress I have made over the years to becoming a fully qualified Barber. I now have regular returning clients who are happy with my services, and lots of barbering knowledge which has helped me improve my skills and enable me to progress to the position I am at now.
Reece started his Barbering career after securing a job at Prestige Salon & Barbers in Lancaster. He started the Barbering Level 2 course at Lancaster & Morecambe College in 2019, and very quickly realised that he really enjoyed it, and that it would become a lifetime skill that he would never lose. Choosing to study at LMC was an easy decision for Reece to make after speaking to other people doing the course and them saying how good it was.
The Barbering course at LMC helped Reece to gain the key skills to become a fully qualified Barber with Prestige. He really enjoyed both the practical and theory sides of the course, but the skill he is most proud that he developed is how he is able to interact with clients in a professional manner to make them feel comfortable. Another skill that the course offered was gaining the ability to cut and style many different hair types with confidence, which enables Reece to cut his regular client’s hair and also any new clients he will gain in the future.

I now have regular returning clients who are happy with my services, and lots of barbering knowledge which has helped me improve my skills and enable me to progress to the position I am at now. My responsibilities are now to look after new and regular clients, providing the best service possible to ensure that they return to the salon, and tell their friends and family about their experience with Prestige.
When asked what advice would he give to someone thinking of doing the Barbering course Reece said:
The barbering course at LMC is very good. I would recommend it to any aspiring young barbers who are looking to gain a lifelong skill to apply today. Since qualifying I have built my clientele quickly and am thriving in the barbering industry with the skills I learnt at LMC.
It’s really difficult to state just one thing I love about working at Lancaster & Morecambe College because there are so many! I really wanted to work here because the college has a fantastic reputation. I love introducing new ways of working and keeping up with relevant trends to improve the course, and I really enjoy the supportive environment that we create for our students.
As soon as interviewed, I knew I was keen to work here. I loved the atmosphere of the classrooms and the department that John and the rest of the team have created. One of my favourite things about the role is getting to talk about my passion, it’s not often people get to do that for a living. I’m very lucky!
All you need to start the Supported Internship course is enthusiasm, motivation, energy and determination. As the course progresses, you will develop your employability, personal and social skills, which will enable you to increase your independence and develop your confidence and self-esteem. All of these new skills will ensure that you are better prepared to enter the workplace as a skilled and effective employee.
Be prepared to work hard and be challenged. The more you put in, the more you will get out of the course. It's a rewarding experience as you can clearly see your skills develop. There is also a great demand for skilled plasterers and the potential for good earnings, so why not give it a go?
The course gives people experiences of business in many forms which can be used in a huge variety of possible future careers – past students have gone on to work in sectors as diverse as fashion, charities, social media, nuclear energy, defence manufacturing and the public sector.
My favourite part of my job is helping people achieve their GCSE English, a key qualification which will open doors for them in the future.
