This course offers a sound introduction to the exciting and prosperous careers in hairdressing and beauty therapy. You will gain knowledge and learn new techniques and skills in a variety of basic hairdressing and beauty therapy services.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The course can lead on to Hairdressing Level 2, Beauty Therapy Diploma Level 2 or an apprenticeship in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

3 GCSEs at grade G/1 or higher PLUS grade F/2 or higher in Maths and English.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

You may study the following:

• Shampoo and conditioning

• Hair Plaiting

• Skin care

• Hand care

• Introduction to the hair and beauty sector

• Presenting a professional image

• Styling women’s hair

• Nail art application

• Basic manicure

• Basic pedicure

• Create a hair and beauty image

• Health and safety

• Compulsory work placement

All students aged 16-19 are required to study functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and/or English if not already awarded a GCSE grade

C/4 or higher in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression to further or higher education, training or employment.

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, coursework, practical performance, portfolio presentation and practical performance.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.
