This is a one year course which focuses on the development of the underlying principles and practical skills required in the hairdressing industry.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The natural route of progression would be the Level 3 Hairdressing or an Apprenticeship. Alternately, to widen your career prospects, you could progress to a beauty therapy course.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

3 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher OR a Level 1 related qualification. Plus English or maths at grade 3/D or higher.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

You may study the following:

• Working in Hairdressing

• Maintain Health and Safety practices in the Salon

• Consult with the Client for Hairdressing Services

• Shampoo and Condition the Hair and Scalp

• Cut Women’s Hair

• The Art of Dressing Hair

• Colour and Lighten Hair

• Provide Perming Services

• Promote Products and Services to Clients

• Work placement

All students aged 16-19 are required to study functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and/or English if not already awarded a GCSE grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression to further or higher education, training or employment.

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including practical, oral and written assignments, together with portfolio building and online testing.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing.
