This qualification is designed for learners looking to start work in, or already working in health and social care, who would like an understanding of common health conditions and their effects on individuals.

Entry Requirements

To study this course, you will be required to complete a satisfactory initial assessment in literacy skills. It may also be useful to have previously achieved a Level 1 qualification.

Course Activities

Each learner must create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. You will be allocated an assessor who will support you through the learning process and assess your work, providing advice and guidance. You would be expected to complete the programme in 16 weeks.

This qualification aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of:

  • Various common health conditions

  • Monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions.

You will study the following 1 mandatory unit:

  • Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions

A range of optional units that covers the following conditions:

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Respiratory disease

  • Sensory Loss

  • Stroke awareness

  • Diabetes awareness

  • Arthritis awareness

  • Dementia awareness

  • The impact of acquired brain injury

  • Understanding mental health

  • Supporting individuals with learning disabilities

  • Physical disability

  • Parkinson’s disease awareness

Progression Opportunities

This qualification could assist you in gaining the following employment opportunities:

  • Care Assistant

  • Nurse

Additional education opportunities include:

  • Access to HE Level 3

  • Understanding Care & Management of Diabetes Level 2

  • Common Health Conditions Level 2

  • Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care Level 2
