The purpose of this qualification is to give learners currently working or intending to work in adult health and social care an awareness of a range of common health conditions.
This qualification aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of:
• various common health conditions
• monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for adult learners studying part time as a hobby or to support a change in their career.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

Successful students will be able to provide support in various health conditions or progress to further study.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

You will need:

• To be 16 years of age or above

• It may also be useful to have already achieved a Level 1 qualification in health and social care.

• To complete a satisfactory initial assessment in literacy skills.

What does the course involve?

You will study the following 1 mandatory unit:

• Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions

A range of optional units that covers the following conditions:

• Cardiovascular disease

• Respiratory disease

• Sensory Loss

• Stroke awareness

• Diabetes awareness

• Arthritis awareness

• Dementia awareness

• The impact of acquired brain injury

• Understanding mental health

• Supporting individuals with learning disabilities

• Physical disability

• Parkinson’s disease awareness

How will I be Assessed?

Each learner must create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. You will be allocated an assessor who will support you through the learning process and assess your work, providing advice and guidance. You would be expected to complete the programme in 16 weeks.

When can I start?

This course is Distance Learning and has flexible start dates so you can start at any time throughout the year.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions, from NCFE.
