This course is an ideal qualification for those seeking to increase their knowledge and understanding of end of life care in a vocational context. This includes a wide range of people working in healthcare whose job description involves caring for those who have a lifelimiting illness.
This qualification is also appropriate for those who have achieved other sector-specific qualifications in the healthcare sector who need to apply their understanding in a palliative care context.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for adult learners studying part time as a hobby or to support a change in their career.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

Successful students will be able to provide support in end of life care when working in healthcare or social care roles.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

You will need:

• To be 16 years of age or above

• It may also be useful to have already achieved a Level 2 qualification in health and social care.

• To complete a satisfactory initial assessment in literacy skills.

What does the course involve?

You will study the following 5 mandatory units:

• Understanding end of life care

• Communication during end of life care

• Assessment and care planning in end of life care

• Person centred approaches to end of life care

• Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care

How will I be Assessed?

Each learner must create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. You will be allocated an assessor who will support you through the learning process and assess your work, providing advice and guidance. You would be expected to complete the programme in 16 weeks.

When can I start?

This course is Distance Learning and has flexible start dates so you can start at any time throughout the year.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care, from NCFE.
