This is a one year full time level 2 course geared towards a career in the fast growing industry of coaching sports.
This course is designed for 16-18 year old and will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience. The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers.
The course will allow you to work in:
• Sports Clubs
• Local Authority Leisure Centres
• Sport Centres
• Private Health Club
The course will also allow you to progress onto level 3 courses or equivalent at the discretion of the course manager.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English.

An appropriate level of fitness
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
The course is made up of 7 units, each focusing on key areas of sport coaching. You will study to develop coaching skills working towards coaching qualifications.
The course is predominantly practical based with supplementary theory session. The units covered include:
• Sports Coaching
• Participation in Sport
• Sports Skills and Tactics
• Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
• Physical Fitness and Injuries in Sport
• Planning, Delivering and Evaluating an Activity Session
• Performance Analysis for Sport
• Improving Personal Fitness
• Strength & Conditioning
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE maths and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths & English Functional Skills.
Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including observation in a real working environment by assessors, oral questioning and written underpinning knowledge papers, practical assessment with supporting evidence, and a portfolio of evidence.
The assessments are formal and practical assessments are based on your ability to work as a sport coach.
On completion of this course you will receive an NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sports Coaching plus Functional Skills qualifications.
