This course is designed to give you a broad range of cookery skills and food services will form an introduction into the hospitality industry. The practical classes will include food preparation and food service. The theory lessons will cover the essential knowledge and will complement the required assignment work.

Course Overview

The course is for suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in the Hospitality & Catering sector who would like to learn about food preparation and cooking, along with food and drink services.

You will study the following:

  • Hospitality Industry

  • Food Safety

  • Customer Service

  • Basic Food Preparation

Practical tests will be based around different aspects of cooking.

All students aged 16-19 are required to study functional English and Maths qualifications or GCSE English and/or Math if not already awarded a GCSE grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant English and Maths qualifications to support progression to further or higher education, training or employment.

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

Progression Routes

The course can lead onto the Hospitality & Catering Level 2 , or an Apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering/Food and Drink Service.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at grade D-G PLUS grade 2/f or higher in Maths or English.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
