This course focuses on the development of professional food and beverage service skills to support work readiness.

The course is largely practical, although some elements of theory will support the understanding of Laws around the business.

Qualifications gained on completion are industry recognised, with skills gained supporting you within the wide ranging opportunities the indusry has to offer. The course will be 3 days in duration, with some evening sessions timetabled as part of learning.

Course Overview

Units covered on this course will include:

  • Professional food and beverage service skills

  • Barista skills

  • Bar skills

  • Communication skills

  • Organisational and time management skills

  • Digital skills

You will develop your practical skills through running the Bay Restaurant within the college. Also whilst on this course you will have the opportunities to take part in educational visits, competitions with other colleges and in house and we invite guest speakers onto the course to share their industry knowledge.

You will be assessed through observation in the workplace and by preparing a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills

Placement opportunities include working locally within a range of different settings as well as the potential for European placements through college based educational visits .
Working alongside lead professionals/employers within the industry will help support your development of a set of transferable skills.
You may also be offered the opportunity to volunteer for charity based functions, working on external front of house events.

Progression Routes

On successful completion of this course you may:

  • Progress to next level of study including. Apprenticeships or anothre full time course

This course could open up your career path into employment opportunities within a wide sector including: restaurants, public sector settings, coffee shops, gastro pubs and bars and Hospitality Management

Entry Requirements

To apply for this course you must:

  • Have a commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour)

  • Be able to work independently

  • Have a proven interest in vocational area

  • Enjoy working with people and have good communication skills

  • Have the desire to want to learn and wear the designated uniform with pride.

  • Be willing to undertake a wide range of practical activities both inside and outside of college

Also a commitment to wanting to improve maths, English and communication skills will be helpful.
