The Careers team at Lancaster & Morecambe College are celebrating achieving the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard award, for its Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme.
As a vocational College career progression is at the heart of our curriculum, and we are committed to providing a CEIAG programme which provides all of our learners and apprentices with high quality support to inspire them and inform their next steps.
The Quality in Careers Standard (QCS) Award is a nationally recognised award which requires schools & colleges to demonstrate that their careers programme will:
Educate, prepare and inspire young people as they make decisions about their future learning and work choices,
Improve their motivation and aspiration,
Develop their career learning skills, knowledge and attributes, and
Increase their understanding of work-based issues such as prejudice, stereotyping, discrimination and equal opportunities.
LMC's Head of Engagement and Careers Lead, Victoria Carter, is proud of the CEIAG team's success in achieving the award and found the process useful for reviewing the College's careers provision.
The Quality in Careers Standard provided us with the time and resource to fully review and evaluate our whole careers provision and to identify strengths and areas for further development. We are passionate about supporting all LMC learners to progress within their chosen sector and achieving this award is testament to the innovative work our dedicated CEIAG team and vocational tutors put into developing a robust careers programme.
The QCS assessor was impressed with LMC's careers provision, stating that:
The College takes the delivery of comprehensive CEIAG very seriously. Students are well supported and staff work hard to raise the aspirations of all students; there is clear evidence of support for apprenticeship routes, T levels and employment. LMC have further enhanced this by providing students with fully-funded opportunities to experience international learning related to the industry sector they would like to work in
The careers team at LMC were named 'Careers Champions' in 2023 by the Careers & Enterprise Company and were also awarded the Excellence in Careers Award - Building Future Skills in 2024. More information about of our innovative CEIAG programme is available on our website
