LMC were pleased to welcome senior staff from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) onto campus earlier this month, for a day of informative meetings focusing on curriculum development, green skills and employer engagement.

IfATE is the national body which oversees the development and quality of apprenticeship and technical qualifications, and they work collaboratively with employers from all sectors, to shape skills training for the future workforce across England.

The team of 6 from IfATE, which included Beth Chaudhary, Director, Insights and Transformations Division, and Policy Advisers Angela Donovan and Linda Hill, had a tour of the College's facilities and the opportunity to chat with tutors and apprentices about their courses and future career choices, before hosting 3 roundtable meetings with local employers, partner agencies and LMC staff.  Discussions focused on how to ensure technical qualifications are working for businesses, educators and learners, and how to embed sustainability and Net Zero learning within the curriculum, to meet current and future skills needs for industry.

The guests also enjoyed a vegan lunch prepared by L2 & L3 apprentices within the College's professional kitchens,, and met with representatives from Eden Project Morecambe and Lancashire County Council.

Following the visit, Beth Chaudhary reflected upon the some of the discussions she and her colleagues had with a wide range of people over the course of the day.

We really appreciate the time and thoughts that the LMC colleagues, employers and other local partners shared with us during the day. It is inspiring to learn how sustainability can be embedded across a wide range of curriculum areas in a positive way as well as hearing about challenges and barriers within apprenticeships and technical education from a range of stakeholders.

LMC has a wide range of Apprenticeships and T Levels available for September 2024. To find out about the different technical qualifications we offer, visit us on our next Open Event or contact our friendly advice team for more information.
